The Fable Engine
You bring the vision
The Engine brings it to life
Eight years of GMing judgment in every commission
Custom campaign kits and character backstories, shaped by a GM with eight years at real tables. Delivered in 48 hours, tailored to your character, vision, or world.
Commission something built for no one else's campaign
Every piece is reviewed by me against one standard: will this work when real people sit down at a proper game of D&D? Not generic templates or boilerplate documents. Built from the ground up, specific to you
From worldbuilding to NPCs, from the BBEG to the end-of-session cliffhangers — every element designed around your ideas and your group’s playstyle, tone, and experience level
- Full three-act structure with chapter breakdowns
- 10–15 NPCs with secrets and motivations
- Gameable location descriptions
- Encounter tables and boss fight design
- Three possible campaign endings
- Session zero player guide
Not just a list of bullet points to rattle off, but a true origin story for your character. Not just what happened to them in bygone days — but why it made them who they are, who shaped their stories, and what is yet to be written. A backstory your GM will pull threads from for the whole campaign (sorry in advance for any IRL psychic damage inflicted)
- Up to 2,400-word narrative backstory
- NPCs from their past, ready for GM use
- Playable flaw, fear, secret and goal
- Character voice guide and dialogue samples
- Three GM-ready plot hooks
- Character arc projection
- Character Introduction — A read-aloud passage to introduce your character at session zero. $15 AUD
- Character Moment — A 500-word short story dramatising one scene from your character's history. $20 AUD
- Session Recap — A 400-word narrative recap of a memorable session, written as an in-world journal entry. $25 AUD

A sample commission — Elara Nighthollow, Full Backstory
Every order is built from your brief
Mira grew up in Kettlemoor, a backwater port town that always smelled of the morning's catch. She and her father were always viewed with suspicion by the neighbours — to meet their furtive glances was to see them avert their gaze elsewhere. Sideways, quickly, away.
Her peaceful life ended on her birthday. The simple act of blowing out the candles set the roof beams ablaze. She and her father put the fire out together. They never spoke of it again.
This is the wound she carries: not the secret of her magic, but the fear that the secret was never hers to begin with. Was this why Kettlemoor watched her? Did it have anything to do with her mother, lost at sea before Mira could remember? Is this a secret she has been keeping — or one that has been kept from her?

Written by someone who has run this scene before
I have been both GMing and playing Dungeons and Dragons 5e / 5.5e games for over 8 years across home games, hosted games, and even some event games; falling absolutely in love with so many aspects of D&D and the TTRPG genre. I started the Fable Engine because I wanted to solve a problem for both new and veteran members of the D&D community — the time it takes to write content. I know what it’s like to have your session zero start tomorrow and still not have a finished backstory. I know what it’s like to be so excited to start your homebrew campaign, only to get bogged down in worldbuilding. So I created the Fable Engine — a wondrous machine that allows me to help you on your adventures through the sharing of ideas and the creation of brand new worlds!
Early customers receive direct contact with the GM and an additional revision round on their first order — no extra charge.

Free tools for your table
Use these tools wisely to enhance your game, plan your sessions, or see the world through the mind (and voice) of your character
Walk through a guided brief builder for campaigns or backstories. See exactly what to include before you commission.
Open intake builder →The only character performance coaching tool for D&D. Generates dialogue, vocal delivery, physicality, and arc guidance for your character in any scene.
Try the performance coach →Map your campaign’s three acts, plot your tension arc session by session, and export a formatted summary.
Plan your arc →If you have questions for the Engine, you are not alone
A raw prompt gives you a villain and a list of locations — useful, but generic. Here’s the honest difference: I use AI to get a first draft down fast, then eight years of GMing decides what actually stays. Which hooks land at a real table and which fall flat. What to cut when players go off on a two-hour shopping tangent. What read-aloud text still works at 9pm after several coffees and a sleepy table. The tool gets words on the page; the judgment about what works is the part you’re paying for. A prompt gives you output. Eight years of knowing what lands gives you a story.
Fiverr backstory services offer 300–500 words of plain text for $10–$25 with variable quality and no specialist knowledge. A Fable Engine commission delivers a structured, formatted document across six sections — origin, key NPCs, voice guide, character arc, plot hooks, and a personal magic item — written by a GM who has run these scenes at a real table. The format is designed for use during play, not just reading once. The price difference reflects a different product, not the same product at a higher margin.
Yes — as a drafting tool, and I want to be upfront about it. I use AI to get a first draft down, then the real work is mine: building the wound at the character's core, cutting what doesn't serve the story, structuring it so your GM can actually run it, and shaping every section with eight years of experience at real tables. You're commissioning judgment, not generation — a human who knows what works in this genre, using good tools to do it well. (Hello, by the way — Benjamin here. I love this work, and I'd rather earn your trust by telling you exactly how it's made.)
Primarily D&D 5e and 5.5e, but the narrative elements work equally well for Pathfinder 2e, Draw Steel, and most other TTRPGs. Just mention your system in the brief.
If I genuinely cannot produce something that works for your table, I offer a full refund. Full and Deluxe packages include a revision round. Bespoke campaigns have unlimited revisions for two weeks.
Yes — and homebrew is where the work gets most interesting. The intake form has a full worldbuilding section. The more lore you share, the more precisely I can integrate the order (or chaos) into your world :)
Your commission arrives as a formatted Google Doc within the timeframe shown for your package. Full and Bespoke packages also include a short Loom walkthrough explaining how to use the material.
